We all know how great we feel even when we have just participated in some moderate form of sport and on the flip side how lethargic we feel if we miss taking part in any form of sport or exercise altogether.

There are 4 factors which occur when we play sport:
• Exercise Can Make Us Feel Alive: The parts of our brain which manage how we feel and how we think are anatomically close to those parts of our brain that co-ordinate and manage our muscular movements. Therefore, the chance that one part of the brain has an effect on another part of the brain seems highly possible.

• Exercise Triggers the Brain to Release Endorphins: Exercise creates an innate feeling of a ‘high’ as it provokes the brain to secrete endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals (like morphine) which fight against stress and pain. It is endorphins that many fitness addicts become obsessed with.

• Exercise Boost Self Confidence: It is highly likely that the way we perceive the quality of our life is linked to us making the most of any characteristics which are hereditary. We all feel hugely satisfied when we do our best, release our potential and use what we have during exercise. Consequently, the feeling of self confidence and self worth increases as we feel good about our self.

• Exercise Turns Adrenaline into Energy: When we are feeling stressed our brain sends messages for the release of adrenaline. Adrenaline produces a boost in stimulation and anxiety. This results in an increase in our heart rate and raised blood pressure. Whilst exercising, adrenaline can be transferred into energy which is used similar to the way fuel is used and becomes burned up. Taking this into consideration, exercise can therefore be a healthy way to release pressure and relieve tension.

Sport in the UK is big business; most games have a large number of fans who follow there every move. With the Olympics around the corner the sports that you follow may have some bearing on what you watch at the Olympics. Cricket and football are two sports that are not contested at the games, they both are very popular but the fans are very different.

• Cricket is not as popular as football but cricket tends to have a following from all ages and sexes whereas football is generally followed by younger men.

• Cricket has many international tournaments but the most famous is the Cricket World Cup – This is where the top cricketing nations play against each other in a limited over game.

• Test cricket is the other variant of the game whereby 2 teams play the game over 5 days

• Cricket is a long haul game so there are often spells where nothing happens and the game becomes absorbing.

• Football is fast paced. It is played over 90 minutes and the object of the game is to score goals against your opponent. The game is full of action, it can all be happening at one end of the pitch and moments later it can all go to the other end.

• Football is by far one of the most popular games in Europe.

In conclusion, if you are the type of person that like to relax in front of the TV then cricket is the game for you as this game arrives at the climax steadily but if you prefer a nail biting contest, football is the way forward!
